Noah Kahan’s Musical Journey to Success

Noah Kahan is an American singer-songwriter that rose to mainstream fame with his success of his song, “Stick Season.” Kahan, age 27, grew up in Strafford, Vermont where he found his love for crafting music. He began writing his own songs at age 8 and continued his work through high school where he started to produce and release songs with his friends.


Kahan signed with Republic Records, a division under Universal Records, in 2017. He released his debut EP, Hurt Somebody, in January 2018 with a notable collaboration with Julia Micheals on “Hurt Somebody.” The non-collaboration version of “Hurt Somebody,” achieved gold status in the United States. The success of the song established Kahan as an artist to watch.



In 2019, Kahan released his highly anticipated debut studio album, Busyhead. The album features a collection of tracks that showcase Kahan's thought-provoking songwriting and expressive vocals.


One of the standout singles from the album is "Mess." This song delves into themes of self-doubt and vulnerability, with Kahan's raw vocals conveying a sense of inner turmoil. "Mess" resonated with audiences for its honest portrayal of human emotions and garnered praise for its relatable lyrics and infectious melody.


Cape Elizabeth

In 2020, Kahan released his second EP, Cape Elizabeth featuring 5 tracks: “A Troubled Mind,” “Close Behind,” “Glue Myself Shut,” “Anyway” and “Maine.”


"Maine," the closing track is a reflection on Kahan's roots and personal journey where he pays tribute to his hometown while also contemplating the passage of time and the inevitability of change.


I Was/ I Am

In 2021, Kahan released his second album, I Was/ I Am, which marks a significant milestone in Kahan's career, showcasing his growth as a songwriter and his ability to navigate themes of self-discovery and personal growth.


"I Was / I Am" is divided into two parts, each representing a different phase of Kahan's life and artistic journey. The "I Was" section reflects on Kahan's past experiences while the "I Am" section represents his present self and his outlook on the future.


Standout tracks from the album include singles like "Part of Me," "Godlight," and "Please." These songs delve into themes of resilience, vulnerability and the search for meaning, resonating with audiences for their relatable lyrics.


Stick Season (Forever)

In February of this year, Kahan released Stick Season (Forever) 5 days after the 2024 Grammys where he was nominated as Best New Artist. Stick Season (Forever) features songs like “Northern Attitude” and “Forever,” an extended version of “The View Between Villages” and collaborations with artists such as Hozier, Brandi Carlile and Kacey Musgraves. “Stick Season” reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 shortly after its 2024 release.
