A Glance at Clairo’s Musical Career

Claire Cottrill, better known as Clairo, is an American singer-songwriter best known for her songs “Sofia,” “Pretty Girl,” and “Bags.” Cottrill, age 25 was born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in Carlisle, Massachusetts. She began posting music online at 13 years old.

Cottrill posted a music video on YouTube for “Pretty Girl” on August 4, 2017. The video went viral reaching a million views within the first week of its release. Cottrill signed with Fader Label in 2017.

diary 00- EP

Following the success of “Pretty Girl,” Cottrill released her debut EP, diary 001, 2018 marking a significant milestone in her music career. diary 001- EP features songs like "Pretty Girl" and "4EVER” highlighting Cottrill’s talent for creating catchy melodies and heartfelt lyrics that listeners can easily relate to. The EP features two feature tracks, “Hello?” with Rejjie Snow and “B.O.M.D.” with Danny L. Harle. With diary 001, Cottrill earned a spot as a promising newcomer in the alternative music scene.

Immunity

In 2019, Cottrill released her highly anticipated debut studio album, Immunity. The album includes three singles, “Bags,” “Closer to You,” and “Sofia.” Cottrill collaborated with producer, Rostam Batmanglij, to create eleven tracks that explore emotions of love, grief, and longing. Cottrill received her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Sofia” in October of 2020.

In addition to earning her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Sofia" in October of 2020, Immunity received widespread critical acclaim, solidifying her status as a rising star in the music industry and garnering praise for its emotional depth and sonic innovation.

Sling

In 2021, Cottrill released her second studio album, Sling. Sling marks the first album release under Clairo Records, LLC which is under exclusive licensing to FADER Label and Republic Records, a division of UMG Recordings, Inc. The album has twelve tracks (four self-written) and the lead single, “Blouse.” Sling was produced by Cottrill, Sam Baker, and Jack Antonoff, a Grammy-winning producer. The songs explore themes of identity, growth, and the complexities of relationships. This album marked a bold step forward for Cottrill as an artist with a slight change in sound like folk and soft rock.

Throughout her career, Cottrill has collaborated with artists such as Mura Masa, SG Lewis, and Wallows, expanding her musical reach and pushing the boundaries of her sound. With her distinctive voice and honest lyrics, Cottrill continues to captivate audiences and establish herself as a prominent figure in the music industry.
