Luke Hemmings in a 27-year-old Australian singer and musician. His professional career began in 2011 where Hemmings posted YouTube song covers. Hemmings started to release covers with friends on YouTube shortly after. Later that year, 5 Seconds of Summer formed including Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood, and Ashton Irwin began posting covers of songs on YouTube. In 5 Seconds of Summer, Hemmings was the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist. The band released five studio albums between 2014 and 2022. In 2023, the band announced a temporary hiatus to pursue other artistic projects.

Hemmings solo career began during the pandemic lockdown in 2020. He began to reflect on his past, especially his youth and growing up in the public eye, writing songs as a way to process his thoughts about his youth.

On August 26, 2024, Hemmings released boy, an EP following the release of his first studio album in 2021 under Arista Records, a division of Sony Music Entertainment. The EP features 7 tracks: “I’m Still Your Boy,” “Shakes,” “Benny,” “Close My Eyes,” “Garden Life,” “Close Enough To Feel You,” and “Promises.” The seven tracks were written while Hemmings was on tour with 5 Seconds of Summer. Each track explores existential themes and self-discovery. boy’s leading single, “Shakes,” was released on March 1, 2024. “Shakes” implies a longing for love and self-acceptance within its lyrics. Throughout boy, Hemmings tells a narrative that explores growth, heartache, redemption, and acceptance.
