Inside MGMT

MGMT is an American alternative band formed in 2002 in Middletown, Connecticut. The band was founded by Andrew Vanwyngarden and Ben Goldwasser. Vanwyngarden and Goldwasser formed MGMT during their freshman year of college at Wesleyan University. The band originally bonded over their shared love for electronic music and blended that with the alternative genre. The band was originally called The Management but they later shortened it to MGMT.

In 2006, the band signed with Columbia Records. Following their singing, MGMT released their first studio album a year later.

Oracular Spectacular

On October 2, 2007, MGMT released their first studio album, Oracular Spectacular. Oracular Spectacular has 10 songs including β€œTime to Pretend,” β€œWeekend Wars,” β€œThe Youth,” β€œElectric Fell,” β€œKids,” β€œ4th Dimensional Transition,” β€œPieces of What,” β€œOf Moons, Birds & Monsters,” β€œThe Handshake,” and β€œFuture Reflections.”

Congratulations

Almost three years later, the band released their second studio album, Congratulations, on April 7, 2010. The album has 9 songs including β€œIt’s Working,” β€œSong for Dan Treacy,” β€œSomeone’s Missing,” β€œFinish Delirium,” β€œI Found a Whistle,” β€œSiberian Breaks,” β€œBrian Eno,” β€œLady Dada’s Nightmare,” and β€œCongratulations.”

MGMT

MGMT released their third self-titled studio album on September 9, 2013. MGMT includes β€œAlien Days,” β€œCool Song No. 2,” β€œMystery Disease,” β€œIntrospection,” β€œYour Life Is a Lie,” β€œA Good Sadness,” β€œAstro-Mancy,” β€œI Love You Too, Death,” β€œPlenty of Girls in the Sea,” and β€œAn Orphan of Fortune.”

Little Dark Age

Over 4 years later, the band released their next album, Little Dark Age, on February 9, 2018. The album has 10 songs including β€œShe Works Out Too Much,” β€œLittle Dark Age,” β€œWhen You Die,” β€œMe and Michael,” β€œTslamp,” β€œJames,” β€œDays That Got Away,” β€œOne Thing Left to Try,” β€œWhen You’re Small,” and β€œHand It Over.”

Loss Of Life

On February 23, 2024, MGMT released Loss Of Life. Loss Of Life has 10 songs including β€œLoss Of Life, Pt 2,” β€œMother Nature,” β€œDancing In Babylon (feat. Christine and the Queens),” β€œPeople In The Streets,” β€œBubblegum Dog,” β€œNothing To Declare,” β€œNothing Changes,” β€œPhradie’s Song,” β€œI Wish I Was Joking,” and β€œLoss Of Life.”

Throughout the years, MGMT has continued to evolve their sound and artistry. From their debut album to their most recent, the band continues to push the boundaries for alternative music creating unique songs that resonate with many.
