I have a lot of trouble separating art and artist; if you’re anything like me, you know the struggle. I think it’s a little bit easier to separate musical artists from their music but I still like to know that the artists that I’m listening to aren’t terrible people. With the growth of the internet and especially social media, it’s no longer possible for celebrities to hide their beliefs. That’s why I love to see Alternative artists using their platform to bring change or shed light on social issues that they find important.

One way that I love seeing artists do this is by supporting causes that they think are important. Take Halsey, for example. Their new album cover caused quite a bit of controversy. However, they were making a statement about something that they found important, in this case, breastfeeding and the stigmas that surround it. While many women talk about this issue, it is always good to have a public figure join the mix.

Alternative Artists Support Meaningful Causes

Another thing that I enjoy seeing is bands or artists that donate to causes that mean something to them. Incubus, for instance, has the Make Yourself Foundation, which donates portions of their revenue to various charities and has raised over 1.5 million dollars so far. Another Alternative band that is dedicated to donating to important causes is 3 Doors Down, with their charity The Better Life Foundation, which funds children’s hospitals and gives money to charities that help give children food, shelter, and clothing.

While it is important for us as citizens to support causes that are important to us, it is always great to see Alternative artists, especially artists that I like, supporting causes that they support and are important to them.
