The Smashing Pumpkins Epic Return

The Smashing Pumpkins will be blessing us all with one new song a week from their three-part rock opera record until Spring 2023!

For the past four years, The Smashing Pumpkins have been planning their biggest record drop ever. Their forthcoming album that is set to be released in November is act 1 of 3. This record is called ATUM, pronounced like the season, autumn. ATUM serves as a sequel to the band’s infamous double records Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness. Each act contains 11 tracks, and they will be chronologically released 11 weeks after one another. Act 1 is out on November 15th, act 2 on January 31, 2023, and act 3 is released April 21, 2023. When the third act is released there will be ten additional unreleased songs with all thirty-three tracks.

Every week from now to next spring, one song will be released on Corgan’s iHeartRadio podcast: Thirty-Three with William Patrick Corgan. The first single on their record, “Beguiled”, presents the band’s return with their gritty, guitar-led sound. It feels like a surreal moment on a calm autumn night. They recently performed “Beguiled” live on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and the single is also on top on the All Access song charts. NME interviewed the band after their performance and discussed the time, work, and creativity put into their 12th album. Billy Corgan told NME, “There’s a lot of people who believe less is more these days—I’m on the opposite side.” It’s no doubt The Smashing Pumpkins are going big for this record.
