The 1975

The 1975, a British band formed in Manchester, has become a defining voice of modern music, blending elements of rock, pop, and alternative. With their introspective lyrics, the band has captivated audiences worldwide since their debut album in 2013. Their evolution over the years—from infectious anthems to deeply personal ballads—reflects a willingness to experiment and push boundaries..

The band formed in 2002 at Wilmslow High School where Hann recruited Healy to be the drummer of a band that he was forming with MacDonald. Healy took over as lead singer when the original singer dropped out of the band. Band members include Matty Healy as the lead singer, George Daniel as the drummer, Ross MacDonald as the bass guitarist, and Adam Hann as the lead guitarist. The band continued to play throughout college at local restaurants while attending university.

In 2010, the band got a manager, Jamie Oborne, who signed them to his own independent label, Dirty Hit.

The band went through several name changes including Me and You Versus Them, Those 1975s, Forever Drawing Six, Talkhouse, The Slowdown, Bigsleep, and Drive Like I Do before landing on The 1975.

Before the release of their debut studio album, the band release four EPs: “Facedown EP,” “Sex – EP,” “Music For Cars EP,” and “IV EP.”

The 1975 (2013)

On September 2, 2013, the band released their first studio album under exclusive license to Vagrant Records and Interscope Records, The 1975. The album has 16 songs and is 51 minutes long. On February 26, 2016, the band released their second studio album under Dirty Hit and exclusive license to Interscope Records. The album has 17 songs and is 1 hour 14 minutes long. The band released their third studio album under Dirty Hit with exclusive license to Polydor Records and Interscope Records on November 30, 2018. The album has 15 songs and is 59 minutes long. On May 22, 2020, the band released their fourth studio album under Dirty Hit with exclusive license to Polydor Records and Interscope Records. The album has 22 songs and is 1 hour 21 minutes long.
