Diving into The Marías

The Marías is an American indie pop band from Los Angeles, California. Group members Maria Zardoya, Joshua David Conway, Jessee Perlman, and Edward James formed the band in 2016 after Zardoya met Conway after a performance. After the two met, they began writing songs and recruiting their close friends Perlman and James. Zardoya is the lead vocalist, Conway is the drummer, Perlman is the lead guitarist, and James is the keyboardist. The band is known for performing songs in English and Spanish.

The group released two EPs before releasing their first studio album. Their first EP, Superclean Vol. I, was released in 2017 and shortly after their second EP, Superclean Vol. II, was released in 2018.

In 2021, the band signed to Atlantic Records and released their first studio album, CINEMA, under Nice Life Recording Company and Atlantic Recording Corporation on June 25, 2021. The album had 13 songs and is 39 minutes long. Tracks include: “Just a Feeling,” “Calling U Back,” “Hush,” “All I Really Want Is You,” Hable con Ella,” “Little by Little,” “Heavy,” “Un Millón,” “Spin Me Around,” “The Mice Inside This Room,” “To Say Hello,” “Frog as a Bullet,” “Talk to Her.”

CINEMA peaked on the United States chart at number 176, the United States Alternative chart at number 22, and the United States Rock at number 35.

Shortly after, the band released their first single, “Hush,” in September 2021. The single climbed to the top of Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart.

The group released their second studio album, Submarine, on May 31, 2024, under Nice Life Recording Company and Atlantic Recording Corporation. Submarine has 14 songs and is 45 minutes long. The song titles are: “Ride,” “Hamptons,” “Echo,” “Run Your Mouth,” “Real Life,” “Blur,” “Paranoia,” “Lejos de Ti,” “Love You Anyways,” “Ay No Puedo,” “No One Noticed,” “Vicious Sensitive Robot,” “If Only,” and “Sienna.”

Submarine peaked on the United States chart at number 17, the United States Alternative chart at number 4, the United States Rock at number 6, and the HUN chart at number 12.

The Marías are currently on the first leg of their Submarine World Tour. The group will also be opening for Billie Eilish’s HIT ME HARD AND SOFT THE TOUR for Canada, Washington, Oregon, California, and Arizona dates.

As the band continues their Submarine World Tour and joins Billie Eilish on her upcoming tour, The Marías are poised to reach new heights, continuing to resonate with fans.
